Can you relate? The first step to begin to heal the trauma of parentification, is to begin to acknowledge and tell your story. As a parentified daughter and former people-pleaser, this initial step was instrumental for my healing and growth journey. Instead of denying that anxious and people-pleasing side that was yearning to be loved and accepted, I embraced it and then thanked it for its service. After doing the work of accountability, and compassion, I let go and appreciated the skills I learned in the process. I thanked that former side of me and advised it to relax. It wasn't an overnight process, and I encourage my clients and #Selfworthhub members to adopt the same mindset and do the same. I then facilitate their reparenting process in order to validate the inner child, inner teen, and wounded side of them that was neglected due to different circumstances.
