Dr. Mark Joseph O'Connell, is a professor at the School of Fashion at Seneca, College, Toronto. Prior to teaching, Mark was a designer both in-house at MAC cosmetics, and for his own clothing line: Modular Menswear.
Mark's research focuses on Canadian fashion systems in the globalized marketplace, both the supply chain that manufactures and distributes, as well as the philosophy that guides and shapes this production. At this time, Mark is working on a book that examines how blankets and the textile trade shaped the political economy of Canada. The Hudson's Bay blanket as well as pre-colonial textile production. For example, the Chilkat blanket from the Canadian northwest. For this monograph he has conducted research at the American Museum of Natural History in New York, and the Royal Ontario Museum.
Mark also currently researches and publishes on the dematerialization of modern, online fashion systems; as they now function within a virtual environment.
