Hi there! My name is Melissa McCurley, and I'm an actor, teacher, and children's book author. I love all things storytelling... I taught 7th grade Language Arts in Dallas, Tx and quickly came to realize how important stories are in developing problem solving skills and creative thinking. The more children were exposed to reading, whether from a family member reading aloud to them or from reading on their own, the more quickly and confidently they approached all their subjects at school. Recent brain research supports the idea that reading aloud to children (as opposed to TV shows that bombard them with visual images) stimulates neurons as they visualize pictures in their mind to match the stories they are hearing. Reading to children increases their capacity to learn! Storytime is fun! So let's grab our friends, some fun costumes, and journey together to lands of make-believe and adventure.
