I used to think lymphatic drainage was just another internet hypeβ¦ until my ankle proved me wrong. My ankles have been swollen for almost a year now. I noticed it early last year, around the time I was almost done with my service year. We assumed it was because I was always either standing or sitting for long hours, wearing heels to work almost every day, or maybe water retention and excess salt. When I pressed them, there was no pitting. They just feltβ¦ meaty. For months, that was how my ankles stayed. Swollen. No pain on that spot; just occasionally, my whole leg would ache sometimes and I do the traditional massage we all know. Last week, I decided to actually research lymphatic drainage massage. I watched a few videos and learned how to massage my legs properly. Lymphatic drainage helps to reduce swelling, improve circulation, drain stagnant fluid, support detox, and relieve that heavy feeling in the legs or body. Thatβs when I realized something shocking. All these years, weβve been massaging our legs the wrong way. We massage downward toward the feet instead of upward toward the heart. That day, I massaged my feet, legs, thighs, and stomach. As a newbie, I honestly thought I probably did it wrong. A few days later, I massaged my legs again. I didnβt expect anything. I even took my mind off it, thinking one or two massages wouldnβt change anything. Until yesterday. I woke up and noticed the swelling in my ankles had drastically reduced. My ankles were almost flat compared to last week. I literally had to stand at different angles just to be sure I wasnβt imagining things. Yβallβ¦ this thing works. Iβll definitely be watching more videos and learning how to do it properly. Ahh. .
